American Heritage Trees

Troy Marden tours a specialty nonprofit nursery which is dedicated to preserving and growing trees with historic lineage. It is located on a Century Farm in Lebanon TN that has been in the same family for more than 200 years.

  1. Tom's ancestors acquired the land from Andrew Jackson in 1800. John Rice purchased 214 acres and paid the equivalent of $1 per acre.
  2. As a boy, Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) resided in Hannibal, MO. He often played in the nearby caves. The Mark Twain Cave Bur Oak, aka Liberty Tree, still grows just outside the Mark Twain cave.
  3. In 1971, Apollo 14 was the 3rd Moon mission of the U.S. Apollo space program. Astronaut Stuart Roosa was allowed to take along 500 tree seeds.
