Colorful Fall Bloomers

A devoted gardener gives her personal endorsement for some of her favorite pollinator pleasing plants that keep the color going strong into the months of autumn. These include cosmos, Mexican heather and gomphrena.

Gardener Extras

  1. To promote new and continuous growth, cut cosmos flowers back after first bloom.
  2. Cosmos can be direct sown in the fall after a few hard frosts have passed, ensuring the seeds won't germinate until spring.
  3. Harvesting gomphrena (globe amaranth) promotes flower production.
  4. Mexican heather (Cuphea hyssopifolia) can be found in various colors, including white, violet, and red.
