Lath House

A Lath House is a protected open air structure made chiefly of slats used for nurturing plants. Annette Shrader tours the Lath House at JC Raulston Arboretum with the director of horticulture to highlight the diverse and unique perennials, shrubs and trees being grown here.

  2. Visitors can expect to see about 6,500 plants on display from all around the world at J.C. Raulston Arboretum.
  3. Daphne shrubs in general, and fragrant daphnes in particular, are extremely sensitive to their surroundings. They can die suddenly for no apparent reason. Usually the cause is unknown.
  4. Aucuba species are native to eastern Asia. They perform well under the canopy of large trees or as a foundation plant in shady corners of the house.
  5. JC Raulston Arboretum has 290 elegant, ever-changing Japanese maple trees on the property.
  6. In addition to the magnolia collection, the arboretum has extensive collections of holly, redbud and conifer.
