- AGAVE ovatifolia is the variety that has been performing well in U.S. Hardiness Zone 7A.
- Lobelia siphilitica (Great blue lobelia) is extremely hardy, low care, and fairly pest and disease-free. Tends to be short-lived, although it may self-seed in ideal growing conditions without becoming invasive.
- Moss varieties featured in the indoor garden include Plagiomium, Thuidium, and Climacium.
- Agave ovatifolia (White Tongue Agave) attracts hummingbirds and birds, but is deer resistant. Easily grown in well-drained soils in full sun to light shade.
