Indigo: Agriculture Research and Production

A goal of Stony Creek Colors is to replace at least 3% of synthetic blue dye with natural indigo produced on Tennessee farms. Currently, TN has the most indigo in research and production than anywhere in the U.S. with all of the biomass coming from within a 60 mile radius of its factory.

  1. Goal of SCC is to replace at least 3% of synthetic blue dye with natural indigo grown on TN farms. All of SCC biomass comes from within a 60 mile radius of its factory. SCC indigo factory is independently operated. The TN Office of Economic and Community Development assisted in the initial rehab of the abandoned building. SCC was the TN selection for the 50 Most Innovative Companies in America, according to Fast Company Magazine.
  2. SCC was Martha Stewart American Made honoree in 2016 and got a big boost when it was awarded a USDA Small Business Innovation and Research grant. It was the first agriculture project in TN to win this federal award.
