Coleus Collector

Coleus now comes in hundreds of varieties that offer season-long color and texture. No longer just for the shade garden, there’s a big selection of sun coleus too. Coleus grows in the ground as well as in containers. Growing habits range from tall to small upright varieties to trailing or sprawling types. Tammy Algood introduces us to a home gardener who is a big fan of coleus who demonstrates how easy it is to propagate from cuttings.

Gardener Extras

  1. When using a rooting hormone product, pour a small amount into a separate clean container rather than the lid or original package. This reduces the occurrence of disease cross-contamination.
  2. If you want the plant to grow more leaves, pinch off flower spikes. Clip the top growing ends to promote more branching.
